The Inaugural BTM Chairman’s Dinner took place on the 9th December in the presence of HRH Prince Michael of Kent, Lord and Lady Trefgarne and our special guests Sir Stirling and Lady Moss. We took the occasion to both welcome Sir Stirling as the President of the Brooklands Trust Members organisation and to be the last in a long line to wish him a very Happy 80th Birthday . I’m sure that 2009 has proven to be a very memorable year for both Stirling and Suzy and we hopefully managed to round it off quite nicely for them here at Brooklands.
The cartoon, drawn by chairman Philip Strickland, was the focal point of the event and featured on the souvenir menus and the special “Belated Birthday Cake”. The cake was presented to Sir Stirling by Miss Great Britain 1982 who also, along with her husband, happens to be a Brooklands Trust Member.
Following a champagne reception, during which time members were able to meet our guests personally, we sat down to a splendid three course meal. Unfortunately our orginal after dinner speaker, Henry Blofeld OBE, was jnable to attend due to an injury but Richard Noble OBE, fresh from his BTM talk in November, stepped in to the breach at very short notice. We are very grateful to him and the Bloodhound team who also managed to raise some funds for their iconic project by auctioning a signed poster and selling the opportunity to have your name on the tail fin of the fastest car on earth.
Ken Bare took many photos during the evening and I’ve reprodueced some here and in the Gallery.
