It was great and quite remarkable that BTM President Sir Stirling Moss was back at the wheel at the weekend after his accident earlier this year.
He was driving in the Silverstone Classic Woodcote Trophy and was rapidly gaining poitions until his car got stuck in gear when he was lying 19th (having risen form 33rd on the grid !). The car was a 1956 1.5-litre OSCA and Stirling’s retirement 10 minutes from the end of the one hour two driver race meant that Musician Chris Rea sped by and took the victory. After the race Sir Stirling said ‘She was stuck in fourth gear and I couldn’t get it to come out. That’s a bit too high a gear to become jammed in. Third I could have coped with. But we were flying and I’ve really enjoyed it.’
Very well done nonetheless.
