      <title>The Bombing of Brooklands</title>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;We are approaching the 70th Anniversary of the bombing at Brooklands. To honour this occasion and the Battle of Britain itself the Museum and SUrrey County Council held a special Battle of Britain lunch on the 15th September where Prince Michael of Kent was guest of honour. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;There are some new Battle of Britain exhibits on display in the Wellignton Hanger surrounding the Hurricane which tell the story of the two raids on Brooklands. and the guests viewed the displays. Addresses were given by HRH Prince Michael, Geoff Marlow (chairman of SUrrey County Coiuncil) and retired Air Chhief Marshall Sir Douglas Lowe GCB DFC AFC. Other guests inckluded Lord Trefgarne, Sarah Goad, the Lord Lieutenant of SUrrey, mayors and councillors of the neighbiouring SUrrey boroughs.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Prince Michael and Geoff Marlow unveiled a plaque commemorating the bravery of Lt J S Patton of the Royal Canadian Engineers who safely detonated an unexploded bomb dropped on Brooklands on the 21st September raid. He was awarded the George Cross and two colleagues were awarded the George Medal and three volunteeres received mentions in the London Gazette for their bravery.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The plaque was instigated by BTM committee member Maurice Joines and paid for by the BTM.
